Khmer farmers apply technology to earn billions

NGUYÊN ANH |

Kien Giang - Dare to think, dare to do, Mr. Minh not only makes his family rich but also spreads the economic development motivation to the local Khmer people.

Arriving at the sunny and windy border area of Phu My commune, Giang Thanh district (Kien Giang), we had the opportunity to meet Mr. Ngo Van Minh - a son of the Khmer ethnic group and also a good farmer at the provincial level. In addition to growing rice to sell to traders, Mr. Minh also provides rice seeds to people in the Tran The Cooperative.

Born and raised in a difficult land, Mr. Minh witnessed the Khmer people struggling with manual farming. In recent years, thanks to the policies of the Party and the State, infrastructure such as electricity, roads, schools, and stations have been invested in and completed. Since then, people have had the opportunity to access science and technology and apply it to agricultural production. Mr. Minh is one of the pioneers who boldly borrowed money from banks to buy modern machinery such as agricultural aircraft, straw balers, and plows for production.

Mr. Minh said: "At first, I only had one agricultural plane. After seeing the high efficiency, I boldly invested in another one. Thanks to that, the work of spraying pesticides, fertilizing or sowing rice is faster, more timely, and more productive than before."

After more than 6 years, Mr. Minh has recovered his capital from the machines and achieved an income of 1.5 to 2 billion VND/year. Not only has he enriched his family, he has also created jobs for dozens of local workers.

Mr. Tran Binh Trong - a worker at Tran The Cooperative shared: "Working at Mr. Minh's place, we have a stable job. I earn about 9 million VND per month, which is quite enough to support my family. Mr. Minh is also very caring, shares difficulties, and helps everyone."

Local people not only respect the talented, creative farmer who boldly applies technology, but also love Mr. Minh because he does not keep his experience to himself but is always willing to share production knowledge, support capital, and provide rice seeds to the people. He also helps poor Khmer households by lending them machines and paying them after the harvest.

Thanks to that, the economic life of many local households has been significantly improved, contributing to stabilizing social security in the border area".

Thanks to his bold application of technology in production, Mr. Ngo Van Minh has created his own success and also spread the spirit of rising up from poverty to the community. His contributions have helped change the face of Phu My countryside, helping the Khmer people gradually build a prosperous and happy life.
