On the evening of September 4, a representative of Cho Ray Hospital confirmed that the victim who was hit by a broken tree branch died that afternoon. Accordingly, at around 4 p.m., a woman (52 years old) was transferred to the Emergency Department in critical condition with multiple injuries.
Cho Ray Hospital representative said the victim had a bruised mass on the back of his head, bleeding profusely through his nose, mouth, and ears. He was admitted to the hospital in a deep coma, had stopped breathing, had difficult to measure blood pressure, and had an irregular heartbeat.
The patient was diagnosed with severe traumatic brain and cervical spine injuries. The emergency team attempted to perform resuscitation measures for more than 20 minutes. However, due to the severity of the condition, the patient did not survive and was transferred to the hospital's morgue.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper , at around 3 p.m., the woman rode her motorbike from her home in Ward 10, District 6 to pick up her child at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. When she reached An Duong Vuong Street, Ward 3, District 5, she was hit by a tree branch about 20 cm in diameter, falling from a height of nearly 20 m. Authorities and people nearby assisted in taking the victim to the emergency room.
In addition, at Thanh Da residential area (Binh Thanh district), an old tree suddenly fell onto the street, causing a woman passing by to be slightly injured by a fallen branch. A car parked on the street was also crushed by a branch. At the scene, the tree stump was uprooted from the road, causing the concrete sidewalk to crack, and power lines were pulled along, causing a power outage in the area.
Earlier, on the morning of August 9, a group of people exercising in Tao Dan Park were hit by a fallen tree branch. As a result, two victims died on the spot and three others were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
