Consumers prioritize calling electric vehicle services

The technology ride-hailing market in Vietnam is recording a remarkable shift as consumers increasingly prioritize choosing electric vehicle services. No longer simply comparing prices or hunting for promotions, many customers say they are more interested in the quality of their trips, stability and feeling of peace of mind when traveling every day.

Users prioritize smoothness and stability

For nearly 1 year now, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha (Cau Giay ward, Hanoi) has almost only booked electric vehicles when traveling in the inner city. Ms. Ha said that before, she often used many applications in parallel, mainly choosing according to promotional prices. However, after a few times experiencing electric vehicles, she gradually changed her habits.

The car runs smoothly, without the smell of gasoline, without loud engine noise. I take my young child to school, so I pay close attention to this. The price displayed before the trip is also quite clear, with few unexpected fluctuations, so I feel more secure," Ms. Ha shared.

Similarly, Mr. Pham Quan (Tay Mo ward, Hanoi) said that his job requires frequent commuting, so he orders technology cars almost every day. According to Mr. Quan, previously the top criterion was cheap price, but now he prioritizes stability.

There are peak times when prices increase very quickly. But with electric vehicles, I find the base price displayed in advance quite reasonable. The car quality is uniform, clean, and the drivers serve professionally. I travel a lot, so I need stability," Mr. Quan said.

Not only users, a part of technology drivers are also shifting to operating electric vehicles. Mr. Pham Van Dung, who has driven a car using a combustion engine for more than 5 years, said that he decided to switch to electric vehicles from mid-2025.

Operating costs have decreased significantly, especially fuel costs. More importantly, customers responded positively. The number of trips is more stable than before," Mr. Dung shared.

According to Mr. Dung, in addition to economic factors, operating electric vehicles helps him feel "brazier" because there is no longer pressure to maintain the complex engine. "The car is smooth, customers are satisfied, and I am also less tired after a long day of driving," he added.

Shares from both users and drivers show a change in service choices: from price priority to experience and sustainability priority.

Talking numbers

Near market research reports reflect the shift to electric vehicle services. According to a survey by Q&Me - a market research unit from Japan, present in Vietnam for more than 13 years - for the first time an application developed by a Vietnamese enterprise exceeded the 50% mark in terms of the rate of regular use in the technology ride-hailing market.

Specifically, in the context that most users install many applications in parallel, Xanh SM has the highest usage rate of 52%, followed by Grab with and be. The survey was conducted in 21 provinces and cities across the country in the period from December 2025 to January 2026.

Notably, 77% of comparisons showed that the pre-promotional display price of Xanh SM was lower, while 19% thought that other brands had lower prices. This result reflects that users are increasingly interested in the base price and cost predictability instead of just looking at the price after the offer.

In addition, users appreciate factors such as vehicle quality, smoothness of the trip and driver's demeanor. These are all factors associated with the characteristics of electric vehicle operation.

From a market share perspective, Mordor Intelligence's Q4/2025 report on the 4-wheel passenger car market in Vietnam shows that Xanh SM accounts for 51.5% market share, surpassing Grab (42.64%) and be (5.86%). This is the 5th consecutive quarter that this business holds the leading position, and also marks the first time market share has exceeded the 50% mark.

According to Mordor Intelligence, the total trading value (GMV) of the market in Q4/2025 reached 490.72 million USD, equivalent to more than 133 million trips, showing that taxi travel demand in Vietnam is maintained at a high level.

In particular, the report also pointed out that electric vehicles accounted for 52.15% of the number of taxis operating in the fourth quarter of 2025, while internal combustion engine vehicles accounted for 47.85%. This rate shows that environmentally friendly vehicles are gradually becoming the dominant type in the market.

The combination of changes in consumer behavior and market share data shows that the trend of shifting to calling electric vehicle services is no longer a local phenomenon. When experience, stability and sustainability are put first, electric vehicles are gradually becoming the default choice of an increasingly large part of urban consumers.
