Young people shoulder village work with digital skills

Lam Dong - More and more young people are running for village heads and neighborhood group leaders, bringing advantages in technology and innovative thinking to improve efficiency at the grassroots level.

At this time, many localities are preparing to elect village heads and residential group leaders after arranging administrative units. More and more young people boldly participate in the election. Not only carrying enthusiasm, they also expect to bring technology and modern management thinking into work at the grassroots level, meeting the requirements of digital transformation in the new period.

These days, Mr. Do Viet Hung (born in 1995), Temporary Village Head of Tan Son (Son My commune, Lam Dong province), is busy with work after many villages were merged into a new unit. He just took on the position of temporary village head from July 1 and continues to be named in the list of official village head candidates in the upcoming elections.

After graduating from university with a degree in Agricultural Technical Pedagogy, Mr. Hung worked at the Propaganda - Mass Mobilization Department under the Son My Commune Party Committee. After arranging the administrative unit, he concurrently held many jobs from Head of the Village Fatherland Front Work Committee to staff of the Economic Department of the Commune People's Committee, then took on the role of interim Village Head.

According to Mr. Hung, the biggest advantage of young people is the ability to access and apply technology to daily work. Instead of traditional management methods, technology helps reduce time, effort and increase efficiency in the operation process.

Previously, every time an activity was deployed, village officials had to bring invitations to each household. Currently, notifications are sent through social networking groups. For households with elderly people who do not use smartphones, children and grandchildren in the family still participate in the group to receive information and notify them.

I think experience cannot be compared to older uncles and aunts. But knowledge, technology and youth are also advantages for me to contribute to my homeland," Mr. Hung shared.

Not only Mr. Hung, but also in Son My commune, there are many village head candidates born in 1992 and 1994 with high education levels participating in the election. This is considered a signal that the young cadre force is increasingly interested in work at the grassroots level.

According to Mr. Nguyen Le Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Son My commune, after arranging administrative units, the scale of the area and population have all increased, making the role of village heads more important. Village heads not only need prestige in the community but also must have the capacity to organize, manage and digitally transform, contributing to changing the face of rural areas.

Regarding the requirement for information technology application level for village heads, Mr. Thanh said that it still follows the standards for Village Heads and Residential Group Leaders specified in Decree No. 185/2026/ND-CP of the Government.

According to this Decree, candidates for village heads and neighborhood group leaders must be 21 years old, permanently residing in the area, have moral qualities, prestige, capacity to organize and mobilize the masses, and practical experience.

Notably, the decree encourages people with appropriate professional qualifications, and at the same time supplements requirements on the ability to apply information technology, plan, summarize, statistics and report to meet the requirements of digital transformation at the grassroots level.

The increasing number of young people participating in the election is expected to supplement a quality human resource for the grassroots level, contributing to innovating management methods, building a government closer to the people, more modern and effective.
