As Lao Dong newspaper reported, on the afternoon of March 5, a tragic drowning incident occurred in Au Lau ward, killing 2 7th grade female students.
According to the report of Au Lau Ward Police, a group of 6 students from class 7A of Tan Thinh Secondary School (belonging to Van Phu ward) invited each other to the lake area in Phuc Thinh residential group, Au Lau ward to play at about 2:30 PM on March 5.

When they reached the lake area, the group went down to the shore area to play with the water.
About 20 minutes later, 2 male students went ashore to light a fire, and the remaining 4 female students continued to stay at the edge of the lake.
While playing, one went to a deep water area and was scared, the friends pulled each other's hands and fell into the lake together.
A friend in the group who knew how to swim tried to swim ashore and pulled another friend up. However, two children T.T. T and D. T. N sank into the water.
Upon receiving the news, functional forces, local authorities and people quickly arrived at the scene to organize search and rescue. The two victims were then brought ashore but died.
Leaders of Au Lau Ward People's Committee said that the bodies of the two female students have been handed over to their families for funeral arrangements. The case is being further clarified by functional agencies.
