Recently, the management agency of the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway decided to adjust the maximum operating speed on the entire route from 90 km/h to 80 km/h, in order to strengthen traffic safety during operation.
Informing reporters at noon on June 1, the expressway management agency said that currently, due to the increased traffic volume during operation, the unit has adjusted the traffic speed at the request of the Traffic Police Department to ensure synchronization throughout the route.

According to the expressway management agency, this regulation applies to both lanes for all vehicles allowed to circulate on the route and takes effect immediately after the traffic sign system is installed. Currently, the installation of traffic signs has been basically completed.
Mr. Huy Phong (Vinh Long province) shared that he regularly travels on the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway to return to his hometown and expressed his agreement with this decision. According to Mr. Phong, the travel time difference between 90 km/h and 80 km/h is insignificant, while the safety factor has been clearly improved.
The adjustment to reduce the operating speed on the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway is suitable for the current actual conditions. Driving at 80 km/h is safer, especially crossing bridges and transition sections," said Huy Phong.
According to Mr. Huy Phong, currently, at many locations of bridge abutments on the expressway, subsidence has appeared, causing the road surface to have a localized height difference when vehicles move through. This makes the vehicle feel shaky when passing through the transition area between the bridge and the access road, so adjusting to reduce speed is reasonable to ensure safety when traveling.

The My Thuan - Can Tho expressway, 23 km long, was inaugurated in December 2023, is a component project of the North - South expressway in the East, with a total investment of more than 4,800 billion VND, from the state budget.
My Thuan - Can Tho expressway is of great significance, reducing congestion, limiting traffic accidents, shortening travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City to just over 2 hours instead of 3.5 hours, gradually forming a complete and modern axis traffic corridor along the Mekong Delta.
