On November 7, the People's Committee of Nam Cua Viet commune (Quang Tri province) said that through site inspection, the authorities determined that the cause of the explosion on the afternoon of October 31 in the rice field in Le Xuyen village was due to shells remaining in the soil exploding.
Previously, the sudden explosion caused a loud noise, mud and soil were scattered far away, and smoke billowed, creating a hole about 2 - 3m deep, 4m in diameter. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any damage to people or property, but it caused panic because there were still many warheads in this area that had not been cleared.
Immediately after the incident, the Military Command and the Police of Nam Cua Viet commune were present at the scene to grasp the situation and reassure the people.
"People hope that all levels and sectors will soon clear bombs and mines to ensure the safety of the area," said the leader of the People's Committee of Nam Cua Viet commune.
According to the Quang Tri Provincial bomb and mine action Center (QTMAC), Nam Cua Viet commune currently has 43 bomb and mine danger areas with an area of over 16.9 million m2. Of which, 35 areas have been safely treated, the remaining 6 areas, including the fields where the explosion occurred in Le Xuyen village, are still waiting for clearance.
It is known that in 2013, in Le Xuyen village, there was also an explosion of sea ammunition under the house, causing a lucky family to escape.
