Due to the impact of tides combined with upstream floods and flood discharges from hydroelectric reservoirs, the water level on Kinh Thay River in Quang Ninh province is remaining above alert level 3 and is rising slowly.
In Dong Trieu town, many areas were flooded. Especially outside the dyke of Thuy An, Nguyen Hue, Hong Phong, many houses and residential areas were flooded. Households in dangerous areas were assisted by functional forces to move to safe areas.
According to information from the Quang Ninh Province Hydrometeorological Station, at around 12:00 on September 11, 2024, the water level at Ben Trieu station - Kinh Thay river was measured at 366cm (3.66m), exceeding the historical mark by 0.33m (historical mark of 3.33m on July 11, 1964) and above alert level 3 by 1.06m (Ben Trieu station BD3: 2.60m).
Currently, in weak dyke areas, the town's functional forces and local people are focusing on reinforcing and using sandbags and stone cages to prevent water.
To cope with the storm, the circulation of storm No. 3, Dong Trieu town mobilized 172 cars; 50 excavators; 620 hoes and shovels; 26,513 pineapple bags in the warehouse; 3,621 bamboo poles; 200 round life buoys; 100 life jackets; Dong Trieu town's reserve materials included: 11,675 sacks; 1,975m2 of filter cloth; 163 steel baskets; 1,216kg of steel wire; 300 life buoys; 250 life jackets; 4 light rafts; 2 sets of 16.5m2 canvas houses; 6 sets of 24.75m2 canvas houses.
Reserved rock at key dike points: Volume 1,106m3, at Binh Duong commune 330m3, Nguyen Hue 94m3, Viet Dan 290m3, Hong Phong ward 270m3, Duc Chinh ward 122m3.
Also according to information from the Quang Ninh Province Hydrometeorological Station, in the next 6-12 hours, the water level at Ben Trieu station will continue to rise slowly, remaining above alert level 3, and is likely to peak around this evening, September 11, 2024. Flood disaster risk warning level: Level 3.
Beware of high risk of flash floods and landslides in the Kinh Thay riverside area. Risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas along the river and downstream areas.
