On May 31, information from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Nghe An province said that Khe Bo Hydropower Plant has announced the operation of regulating reservoir water to ensure safety according to the approved inter-reservoir process.
Accordingly, from 2:00 p.m. on May 30, Khe Bo Hydropower Plant began releasing floodwaters with a total flow of 500 - 1,200 m3/s, through generators and spillway cavities. The discharge flow may change depending on the amount of water flowing into the reservoir.

Previously, from 1:30 a.m. the same day, a series of other reservoirs in the province discharged floodwaters to ensure safety, including: Chau Thang hydropower plant (Que Phong), Chi Khe (Con Cuong), Nam Giai, Song Quang, Ban Coc (Que Phong), Nam Mo (Ky Son) and Ban Ang (Tuong Duong).
As Lao Dong reported, on the night of May 29 and 30, heavy rain caused flash floods in Nhon Mai and Huu Khuong communes (Tuong Duong), damaging 14 houses, of which Nhon Mai commune had 11 houses, Huu Khuong commune had 3 houses swept away. Many landslide-prone areas threaten people's lives.

In Ky Son district, floods caused damage to 19 households in My Ly, Huoi Tu, Dooc Ma and Muong Tap communes. Many areas of crops, fish ponds and livestock of the people were swept away. Unfortunately, a resident, Mr. K.P.X. (born in 1993) was swept away and died by floodwaters.
In Que Phong district, prolonged heavy rain caused flash floods, landslides, seriously affecting roads, houses, crops and livestock.
Currently, the government and functional forces are actively supporting people to overcome the consequences, urgently evacuate households from dangerous areas and closely monitor the flood situation to proactively respond.
