On the afternoon of May 30, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Dinh Hong Vinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong District (Nghe An Province) said that the district is focusing all its efforts to overcome the consequences of the heavy rain that occurred on the evening of May 29 in Nhon Mai and Huu Khuong communes.
According to a quick report, heavy rain lasting from 6pm to 7:30pm caused serious damage. The whole district has 14 damaged or washed away houses, of which Nhon Mai commune has 11 houses and Huu Khuong commune has 3 houses. Some other areas are showing signs of landslides, threatening the safety of households.

In Huu Khuong commune, rising floodwaters caused the dormitory of the Ethnic Boarding Secondary School to be flooded, causing rocks and soil to overflow into the student's living area. The rice and crop areas of the people of the two communes were broken and damaged - currently the localities are organizing specific statistics.
Regarding infrastructure, the district recorded 3 bridges for people being swept away (including 2 bridges in Huu Khuong, 1 bridge in Nhon Mai), 2 electric poles collapsed, causing a complete power outage in Nhon Mai commune, and 1 irrigation project in Nhon Mai village was swept away. Heavy rain also caused landslides on many inter-commune and inter-village roads, hindering the repair work.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, the District People's Committee and the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control - Search and Rescue have established a special working group, led by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Dai - Member of the District Standing Committee, Commander of the District Military Headquarters - as the leader, directly present at the scene to direct and support people.
The People's Committees of affected communes are coordinating with local police, military and people to urgently clear mud, dredge the road, rebuild power poles, support the evacuation of people from dangerous areas and ensure environmental safety and hygiene.
Mr. Dinh Hong Vinh added that the District People's Committee is continuing to count the damage and will have a report to the Provincial People's Committee, and at the same time requested that competent authorities support vehicles and materials to soon stabilize people's lives and restore essential infrastructure.
