On the morning of June 30, due to prolonged heavy rain, in Cua Ong ward, Quang Ninh province, about 50m of embankment at the foot of the hill behind the residential area occurred.
Immediately after the incident occurred, functional forces in the area urgently supported people to move property out of the dangerous area.
Functional forces also stretched ropes, planted warning signs, and cordoned off landslide locations to ensure safety.
According to the Northern Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 24 hours, Quang Ninh province has had moderate rain, heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Rainfall measured from 7:00 AM on June 29 to 7:00 AM on June 30 at some stations: Cua Ong 204mm, Bai Chay 168mm, Quang Ha 107mm, Mong Cai 103mm, Tien Yen 87mm; other places from 10-46mm.
From the night of June 29 to the morning of June 30, widespread heavy rain also caused localized flooding in many areas in Quang Ninh, some points are at risk of landslides, affecting traffic and people's lives.
Some areas such as Cao Xanh, Ha Khanh, Bai Muoi, Cao Thang, Ha Lam, Ha Long 2 market area, Yet Kieu regulating lake, National Highway 18 section passing through Cai Lan industrial park... have localized flooding. These are places that often flood when there is heavy rain in Quang Ninh province.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, from Ha Long 2 market area, Hong Gai ward, said that on the morning of June 30, heavy rain caused flooding on some roads around Yet Kieu regulating lake.
The meteorological agency forecasts that from the morning of June 30 to the morning of July 2, due to the influence of subtropical high pressure encroaching west combined with upper-level wind convergence, Quang Ninh province will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain, in some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms. Common rainfall is from 80-170mm, in some places over 250mm.
Prolonged heavy rain can cause floods, flash floods, and landslides in high-risk areas, especially road traffic projects under construction, underground mines, coal mines, and hillsides; and also cause localized flooding on some roads, low-lying residential areas and underground spillways across small rivers and streams.
In thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, strong gusts of wind that can break and collapse trees, damage houses, infrastructure works, causing danger to ships operating at sea and the safety of people.
Faced with the complicated developments of the weather, functional agencies of Quang Ninh province recommend that people be vigilant, proactively check their residences, reinforce their property, limit movement when it rains heavily and do not go through deep flooded areas and fast-flowing water to ensure safety.
