Prolonged heavy rain in Muong Than commune caused landslides in many locations on National Highway 32 and National Highway 279, soil and rocks spilled onto the road surface, causing traffic jams and potential safety risks.
On July 24, information from Lai Chau Provincial Police, this morning, the Muong Than commune area recorded very heavy rain, large amounts of water from the hillsides poured down, causing soil and rocks to overflow many road sections on national highways passing through the area.
On National Highway 32, at Km353+800 (belonging to Chit village, Muong Than commune), soil and rocks filled the road surface, making it impossible for vehicles to circulate.
Meanwhile, on National Highway 279, some landslide points in the Km156 area also caused road cuts, traffic was completely blocked.
Faced with the above developments, Lai Chau Provincial Police recommends that people and vehicles with routes through Muong Than commune on these two national highways temporarily stop moving, find safe parking locations or proactively choose alternative routes.
Functional forces also requested people to absolutely not intentionally pass through landslide areas or underground spillways with strong currents; and at the same time comply with traffic guidance and traffic diversion of traffic police and local police at the scene to ensure safety.
Functional agencies are monitoring weather developments and implementing handling measures to soon overcome the incident and restore traffic on the affected routes.
From July 16 to July 17, 2026, heavy prolonged rain occurred in Muong Than commune, Lai Chau province, causing flash floods, landslides and serious landslides, sweeping away 13 houses of people.
By 5 pm on July 20, 2026, natural disasters had caused 7 deaths, 1 missing person and 8 injured, causing heavy damage to people and property, pushing many families into extremely difficult circumstances.
