Bustling construction site
On December 21, despite heavy rain and prolonged cold winds, in many residential areas in Dak Lak province that were still in disarray after natural disasters, 140 officers and soldiers of the Provincial Police were still tirelessly staying, continuing to clean up and rebuild houses for people.
According to Dak Lak Provincial Police, the police force is responsible for building about 200 houses, most of which are located deep in residential areas, away from major roads. Each working group has only 6 - 8 officers and soldiers but takes on all tasks, from clearing the messy rattan and debris, digging the foundation between the dirt foundation, to mixing concrete, building walls, and roofing.
In the constant rain, many officers and soldiers still carry scratches from heavy work. However, the atmosphere at the projects is always bustling, with a spirit of urgency and determination.
Soldier Tran Quoc Tuan, Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of Area 3, Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Dak Lak Province Police shared: The brothers in the team determined that this is not only an assigned task but also the responsibility and affection of the police officers towards the people. Each completed house is an additional family to soon stabilize their lives. That is the motivation for us to overcome all difficulties and hardships.
The biggest difficulty is transporting materials in erratic weather conditions. Many collapsed houses are located deep in residential areas, 500m to more than 2km from where trucks can reach. Small, slippery roads, mud or high slopes make it almost impossible for motor vehicles to enter. Officers and soldiers had to use homemade carts and tractors, even carrying bags of cement and iron on their shoulders to bring them into the project.
According to the representative of Military Region 5, after Resolution 380 of the Government was issued, more than 2,700 officers, soldiers and hundreds of working teams were mobilized, coordinating with local authorities to urgently deploy the "Quang Trung Than Phat" Campaign.
In Da Nang, in recent days, the villages in the A Vuong highlands have also brought a bustling atmosphere. The sound of concrete mixers and hammers echoing in the mountains and forests. The place that used to struggle to cope with natural disasters is now the "big construction site" of the Quang Trung Campaign, rebuilding houses for people.
Responding to the Prime Minister's call, union members, youth, police and military forces of Da Nang City have simultaneously launched a campaign, directly going to the grassroots, working side by side with local authorities to help people repair and rebuild damaged houses.
The urgent atmosphere is clear in Tra Tap commune, which suffered heavy damage after storms in late October. The mountainous roads, which were already damaged, are now more muddy, but the spirit of " speeding" of the Quang Trung Campaign still spreads throughout the village.
Helping people overcome the shock
Mr. Tran Dinh Khoi's house in village 6, Tra Tap commune, Da Nang city was damaged during the heavy rain at the end of October, forcing his family to evacuate urgently.
"Lost a house in the blink of an eye was a huge shock. But thanks to the timely support of the government and forces, my family found a new site to rebuild the house, said Mr. Khoi.
During the heavy rain lasting from October 25 to 31, combined with the impact of storm No. 13, Tra Tap commune had nearly 140 houses damaged, of which 8 were completely collapsed; 13 families were forced to urgently evacuate from the danger zone.
Mr. Le Trung Thuc - Chairman of Tra Tap Commune People's Committee - said: "The commune has reclaimed land, leveled the ground, assigned each agency and unit to support a few households to build houses on schedule. The locality's determination is to properly implement the spirit of the Quang Trung Campaign according to the direction of the Prime Minister".
In A Vuong commune, Da Nang city, Mr. A Vo Hop (31 years old, A Tep village) was moved when standing in front of his family's new house that is gradually being completed. The landslide at the end of October completely buried the old house, leaving the couple penniless.
"Thanks to union members and young people working day and night, the house was built very quickly and securely. This roof not only shelters the sun and rain but also motivates my family to continue to live better" - Mr. Hop choked up.
In Lam Tuyen 1 village, D'ran commune, Lam Dong, after only 10 days, the vacant land of Mr. Mai Ngoc Hiep's family was replaced with a solid house, with brick walls, reinforced concrete pillars, and corrugated iron roofs. Although it was dark, the officers and soldiers were still working hard on the scaffolding, mixing mortar and building walls to keep up with the progress.
Mr. Mai Ngoc Hiep emotionally said: The timely support for house construction helps us soon have a stable place to live, work with peace of mind, and recover after the flood. The soldiers built houses very quickly, carefully and securely. Seeing people busy forgets to eat or take a day off, I was really touched.
