On February 25, Mr. Trinh Van Hieu (46 years old, residing in Khanh Hoa ward, Can Tho city) went to visit the fish trap (a tool for catching shrimp and fish) in the shrimp settling ponds and caught a 1.1 kg sea crab.
According to Mr. Hieu, he has been raising crabs for many years, but for the first time he caught such a large sea crab. Currently, traders buy first-class meat crabs (2 crabs/kg) at a price of 400,000 VND/kg, so Mr. Hieu's sea crab is sold by this farmer for 440,000 VND. First-class brick crabs bought at farmers' ponds are priced at 650,000 VND/kg, prices at the market range from 750,000 - 850,000 VND/kg.
Sea crab is one of the specialties in the Mekong Delta, especially Ca Mau crab. In Ca Mau, the crab symbol is built at Dat Mui - the southernmost land of the Fatherland.
