Lao Cai - Heavy rain caused floodwaters to rise, sweeping away more than 2.2 tons of sturgeon and salmon from people on Khau Pha Pass.

On the evening of August 26, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Hoang Trong Nghia - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Le commune (Lao Cai province) - said that heavy rain lasted from last night to this morning, causing floodwater to overflow the hotel area on Khau Pha Pass, sweeping away many ponds of sturgeon and salmon.

It is known that the above hotel area was built near a waterfall, the hotel owner takes advantage of the stream to raise fish in combination with hotel business. Initial statistics show that floodwaters swept away more than 2.2 tons of sturgeon and salmon.

"Currently, the road to this area is eroded on both sides, making it impossible for traffic, so the authorities have not yet been able to reach the scene," said Mr. Hoang Trong Nghia.

According to the Chairman of Tu Le Commune People's Committee, after the floodwaters rose, the authorities evacuated more than 10 households in the area at risk of landslides and their assets to safety.

Due to the impact of storm No. 5, heavy rain lasting from the night of August 25 to the afternoon of August 26 caused heavy damage to people and property in Lao Cai province. According to a quick report from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Lao Cai province, 1 person died, 1 person is missing and 2 people are injured; more than 700 houses were damaged and many areas of crops were destroyed.
