Water still overflows the dyke, people worry about landslides recurring
Along the Mang River dyke section passing through Tan Long Hoi commune, Vinh Long province, some landslide points have been treated and reinforced. However, the water level is still high, causing water to continue to overflow in some locations, making people unable to feel secure.
Mr. Dang Van Nam, Tan Long Hoi commune, said that the landslide section about 50m long in front of his house has been repaired. However, in the middle of the newly treated section, a point of water flowing in still appeared. According to him, if the water flow continues to dig deep, this weakness may expand, causing landslides again, affecting the earth dyke section that has just been reinforced, causing the family to be very worried.
Mr. Nam said that the landslide occurred around April 2026, causing damage of more than 20 million VND. Previously, his family poured about 3 sand boats behind the garden to raise the ground, but when the landslide occurred, all the sand was swept away. Therefore, even though the project has been repaired, he is still worried that water will continue to flow in and cause landslides again.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, Tan Long Hoi commune, shared that the outside of his family's fish pond has been repaired, but the water level is still overflowing because the dike is still low. Currently, the construction unit is building more rows of bricks across to limit water from overflowing into the pond. However, his family is still worried as the water level continues to rise.
My family invested in a fish pond currently worth about 1.5 billion VND. If landslides continue, the fish pond is at risk of being completely lost. Therefore, we hope that the low dike area will be reinforced soon, not letting water overflow and affect production" - Mr. Hong said.
Urgently complete the project, ensure production safety
The Mang River dyke plays a role in protecting residential areas and production areas of many households in Tan Long Hoi commune. Therefore, after the landslide points are overcome, the locality continues to monitor locations that are still low, with the risk of water overflowing and landslides returning.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Truong Thanh Phuoc - Vice Chairman of Tan Long Hoi Commune People's Committee - said that recently, the dyke line through the commune experienced landslides at 5 points, affecting about 250 households and about 250ha. This area mainly has people raising pangasius, growing coconuts, lotus and fruit trees, in which there are many production areas located close to the dyke line.
According to Mr. Phuoc, especially on the route, there is Tan Long Hoi Primary School, so ensuring safety for people and students is concerned by the locality. Landslide points have been remedied, but there are still some items that need to be completed. Constructions are waiting for the dry land to re-extend the dike surface, helping people travel more conveniently. Meanwhile, some locations still have water overflowing due to high water levels, causing people to worry about the risk of landslides continuing to occur.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh - Head of Project Operations Department 1, Vinh Long Provincial Agricultural Project Management Board, informed that the landslide points and landslide-prone points on the route have basically been completed by the construction unit. Some locations are only waiting for dry soil to be poured. The unit is continuing to inspect and reinforce the low sections to limit water overflow. According to Mr. Vinh, some points of water overflow are due to the water level this year being higher than in previous years. The unit has directed the contractor to build higher at lower locations, and at the same time accelerate the construction progress.
Above all, it must be done quickly, ensuring that water does not overflow into people's gardens and houses" - Mr. Vinh said.
