Pollution from waste treatment plants threatens the lives of people in Nam Dinh

Hà Vi |

For many years, people in Nam Giang town and neighboring communes of Nam Truc district (Nam Dinh) have been continuously "tortured" by the stench and flies from the waste treatment plant. Despite repeated reports, the pollution has not been completely handled.

People are "tortured" by pollution

Recently, reflecting to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, some households in Nam Giang town (Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh province) expressed their great concern about the pollution from waste treatment plants in the town that seriously affects the lives, activities and health of people.

Many people in the Dong Co area (Nam Giang town) said that the pollution from the above waste treatment plant has been happening for a long time. People have repeatedly reported to the local authorities, but the matter has not been completely resolved.

Not only are people in Nam Giang town affected by the stench from the waste treatment plant, but neighboring communes such as Nghia An (Nam Truc district) also have to suffer similarly.

A resident in Bai Trach village, Nghia An commune was upset: "In any direction the wind blows, people in that area have to endure the stench. Living near a waste treatment plant, having a job at home, we have been spraying flies since the day before, but flies still attract black buffaloes to the food processing area, causing pollution and unsanitary conditions.

Reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper were present in the above area to record the garbage factory that people reported near the Dao River dike in Nam Giang town (Nam Truc district).

Seen from the Dao River dike, around the waste factory, there are corrugated iron fences; the area is left empty, only separated by a small ditch of water. With the naked eye, it is possible to see all kinds of garbage that have been and have not been treated with higher materials on each floor to leave open, without covering or burying.

It is known that the waste treatment plant in Nam Giang town that people reported is owned by Nam Truc Green Environment Company Limited, which has been in operation since 2015.

What did the government say?

Regarding the people's reflection, in an interview with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Cao Xuan Nghi - Chairman of Nam Giang Town People's Committee (Nam Truc District) - informed that the waste treatment plant of Nam Truc Green Environment Company Limited was formerly the town's waste treatment area. After a period of operation transferred to this company and expanded the planning, it now has an area of about 3.4 hectares.

"Previously, when planning the landfill, there were no households living around it, so the distance was standard. Currently, this is a garbage collection and treatment area of the entire town, the local government has discussed directly with the company to promptly thoroughly handle the odor situation, not affecting people's lives" - Chairman of Nam Giang Town People's Committee said.

According to Mr. Tran Xuan Tuong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghia An Commune (Nam Truc District): "The garbage factory in Nam Giang Town has affected the lives of people in a hamlet area of Nghia An Commune, the local government has grasped the information. We have repeatedly reported and informed the company to find a way to handle and overcome the situation."
