HUE - People in Hue discovered a rare red-faced monkey injured and handed it over to the forest rangers.

At 9:15 a.m. on February 27, the Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department (Hue City) received a red-faced monkey (Macaca arctoides) from Mr. Ho Van Kha, residing in Thuong Nhat Commune, Phu Loc District.

According to information from the Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department, the red-faced monkey received weighed 1kg and was injured in the right rear leg.

Mr. Ho Van Kha said that he discovered this monkey near the YesHue Eco eco-tourism area, in a weak state, making it difficult to move. Realizing that this was a rare wild animal, Mr. Kha proactively contacted the authorities to hand it over.

Red-faced monkeys (Macaca arctoides) are group IIB in the List of endangered and rare forest plants and animals according to Decree 84 of the Government. This is a wild animal species at risk of decreasing in number due to shrinking habitats and illegal hunting.

Currently, Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department is monitoring the health status of the monkey, and at the same time planning to transfer it to a wildlife rescue center for treatment of wounds before releasing it back into the natural environment.
