On August 26, Da Nang City Police said that Dien Ban Ward Police had just discovered a banana flower processing facility using bleach chemicals.
The working group of Dien Ban Ward Police has just inspected a food processing facility in block 4, Dien Ban Ward. At the scene, the police discovered that the facility was processing banana flowers with signs of using chemicals to bleach them before distributing them to the market.
The owner of the facility is Ms. T.T.M. (born in 1978, residing in Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City) could not present a Business Registration Certificate as well as a Certificate of food safety and hygiene eligibility.
The authorities seized 1.41kg of unlabeled white powder (Ms. M. claimed to be Meta to bleach banana flowers), 3 bottles of banana flower soaking chemical solutions, and 7.4kg of banana flowers that had been treated with chemicals. Initially, Ms. M. admitted to using the above substance to soak the banana flowers that night.
The results of the examination of the Institute of Criminal Science in Da Nang City determined that the chemical used by Ms. M. was Natri Metabisulfit - an additive that can be used in food, but if overused, exceeding the permitted threshold, it will harm the health of consumers. Currently, the ward police are continuing to request an appraisal of the chemical content of the pre-processed banana flowers for handling in accordance with legal regulations.
