On the morning of December 11, the Hue City Forest Protection Department said that it had just received a rare pangolin handed over by two electricity employees at night.
At around 9:00 p.m. on December 10, while on duty, Mr. Vo Duy Linh and Mr. Nguyen Hoai Thanh of the Nam Song Huong Electricity Management Team (Hue Power Company) discovered a pangolin running across the road. The two staff quickly approached, rescued and brought them to the forest rangers for handover.
The pangolin weighs about 1.2 kg, is in normal health, and is identified as a Java pangolin - a species in group IB according to Decree 06/2019 of the Government on the management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals.
The Central Forest Protection Department is coordinating with relevant units to complete the dossier according to regulations and will release the pangolin back into the natural environment.
According to the Forest Protection Department, Circular 27/2025 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development stipulates that the People's Committee at the commune level is the competent authority to receive wild animals. However, due to the habit of people directly contacting the forest rangers, the Central Forest Ranger Department still coordinates to receive them to ensure timely handling.
