On the morning of August 7, the authorities of Cua Viet commune (Quang Tri province) promptly inspected, handled and destroyed many dead pigs that were thrown haphazardly into the environment in the border area between the villages.
People discovered 5 pig carcasses stuffed in sacks, thrown into drainage on the Dong Ha bypass road, the section bordering Tan Minh village and the old Gio Linh town (now Gio Linh commune).
Immediately upon receiving the information, Cua Viet commune directed the village chief to inspect the scene and coordinate with the authorities to destroy the pigs according to the epidemic prevention procedure.

Mr. Hoang Thanh Luong - Head of the Economic Department of Cua Viet commune said that the area where the pig carcass was discovered was located between the boundaries of many villages, so it is not possible to determine the specific origin.
We have handled it promptly to ensure environmental sanitation and prevent the risk of spreading the currently very complicated African swine fever epidemic in the area, said Mr. Luong.
According to Mr. Luong, during the handling of the incident, the authorities recorded many strong odors suspected to come from illegal pig carcasses in the border areas between Tan Minh village, Lai An and the old Gio Linh town.
This afternoon, we continue to send veterinary staff to check the entire vacant area, search for and destroy the stolen pigs to protect the environment. Hopefully, people will raise awareness and absolutely not arbitrarily dump pig carcasses into the environment. When discovering sick or dead pigs, it is necessary to report them immediately to receive instructions on how to handle them properly," Mr. Luong called for.
It is known that Cua Viet commune has announced African swine fever after the epidemic broke out in some households in Nhi Ha and Nhi Trung villages. As of August 7, the commune has destroyed more than 70 pigs infected with the epidemic. Currently, the locality is strengthening propaganda, inspection and supervision of epidemic prevention work throughout the area.
Previously, in some communes in Quang Tri province, there was also a situation of dumping dead pigs, the authorities have stepped in to investigate and handle related subjects.
