On the afternoon of August 4, the People's Committee of Dong Thuan Ward (Quang Tri Province) confirmed that after receiving information from social networks about many sacks containing pig carcasses thrown into the canal in the Lo Ngoi Bridge area, the ward sent forces to the scene to handle the situation.
Previously, a video circulating on Facebook showed many sacks lying in the middle of the channel, with content reflecting a strong stench and suspected to be dead pigs inside. Through inspection, the authorities have recovered all the dead pigs and are burying them in accordance with environmental sanitation regulations.
The Ward People's Committee said that it will continue to strengthen inspection and supervision of canals and ditches in the area, and at the same time coordinate propaganda to raise people's awareness in handling dead animals, avoiding water pollution and public outrage in the community.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, the situation of dead pigs being thrown into rivers and streams appeared in many localities in the province. The peak was on August 1, in Dong Trach commune, the authorities discovered about 50 dead pigs floating in the canals, forcing them to collect and bury them according to regulations to prevent the risk of disease.
