Install LED lights, add safety net
On March 23, information from Road Management Zone II (Vietnam Road Administration) said that the unit has approved and licensed the construction and installation of decorative power systems and safety nets on Ben Thuy 1 bridge (Km467+500, National Highway 1), the border section between Nghe An and Ha Tinh.
The project is invested by Nghi Xuan Commune People's Committee (Ha Tinh), after completing design appraisal procedures, site inspection and being approved by the road management agency for technical plans.
According to the approved plan, the art lighting system will be installed along the railings on both sides of the bridge, with a total length of about 433.55m each side. LED wire lights are arranged vertically and horizontally, using low voltage 12–24V to ensure safety.
Along with that, a safety steel mesh system is installed at the bridge spans to enhance protection and limit the risk of objects falling down.
The entire system is designed in modular form, assembled into the existing railing with clipping codes and specialized glue, without drilling or chiseling into the bridge structure. The construction plan is also calculated to facilitate the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the project during operation.
Ensuring traffic safety, not affecting bridge structure
The management agency requires that the installation must absolutely not affect the load-bearing capacity and stability of Ben Thuy 1 bridge. The lighting system must ensure that it does not cause glare, does not create flashing effects, and does not affect traffic participants.
During the construction process, the investor and the construction unit must arrange full signs, barriers, traffic lights, traffic controllers, ensuring safe traffic 24/24h on National Highway 1.
Notably, all costs of installation, operation, maintenance as well as dismantling upon request are arranged by the investor themselves. In case the project affects traffic safety or bridge structure, the investor must be responsible for remediation and compensation according to regulations.
The decoration and supplementation of the Ben Thuy 1 bridge protection system is expected to contribute to improving the urban aesthetics of the Nghe An - Ha Tinh gateway area, while enhancing safety for the project during operation.
Ben Thuy 1 bridge is an important traffic project, started construction in 1986 and inaugurated on May 19, 1990. The bridge is 630.5m long, with a steel truss structure, playing a vital role on National Highway 1A and replacing Ben Thuy ferry. However, recently, many people have come to this area to commit suicide. From the above reality, many opinions suggested installing protective railings to prevent negative acts.
From that reality, Nghi Xuan Commune People's Committee proposed the above project. It is known that some businesses have supported funding for implementation.
