Phu Quoc resolutely handles encroachment on roads, regains landscape

Many campaigns have been launched to dismantle constructions that spoil the urban landscape, along with community projects that Phu Quoc is investing heavily in, in order to restore the landscape of the Pearl Island.

No "kidnapping and abandoning" when handling violations of urban order

Recently, in order to carry out the key tasks issued by the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City on strictly managing the area in terms of construction order, the People's Committee of An Thoi Ward organized a campaign to handle violations of land, construction, and encroachment on road corridors. This is a drastic move to improve urban order on key routes and areas, especially Nguyen Van Cu Street and DT97 Street, where there are many cases of households, individuals, and organizations violating the land and construction sector.

Accordingly, from October 22 to 29, 2024, individuals and organizations violating the law must dismantle and relocate all illegal constructions out of the road corridor, roadway, and sidewalk on land managed by the State. After the prescribed time, if the violating organizations and individuals do not voluntarily comply, the Ward People's Committee will coordinate with specialized agencies to dismantle and relocate all illegal constructions and handle them according to the provisions of law.

An Thoi Ward is currently considered one of the leading tourism and entertainment centers of Phu Quoc with a high-class tourism ecosystem, notably the entertainment complex with a total investment of thousands of billions of VND, Hoang Hon Town, the 5-star resort complex Bai Kem, the iconic cable car project Hon Thom, Cau Hon... Resolutely handling encroachment on the road will contribute significantly to the beautification of the urban landscape, beautifying the destination that is loved by many tourists.

Previously, Duong Dong ward was noted as a place where encroachment on sidewalks and roads for business and trading occurred quite a lot, affecting urban aesthetics and traffic safety. Since the beginning of October 2024, the ward has also coordinated with the City's departments and offices to organize inspections, remind and guide people to arrange their business places, hang advertising signs, and arrange parking spaces according to regulations. In addition, many solutions to handle environmental problems have also been implemented such as upgrading the drainage system, improving drainage and raising the frequently flooded section on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street.

Not only Duong Dong and An Thoi wards, currently Phu Quoc is implementing urban beautification in a rolling manner throughout the city. Mr. Tran Minh Khoa - Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee said: "We have specific plans for each road and each street. The core force is the city's urban order management team working with the wards and communes. When each street is clean, it will be handed over to the wards and communes for direct management. The spirit of the City is to be more determined and persistent, avoiding the situation of kidnapping and abandoning the plate".

According to the City Leader, to promote the beautification of the urban landscape, it is necessary to raise awareness among people, not only locals, but also domestic and foreign tourists, to join hands with the government and the entire political system.

According to the records, the city's urban beautification plan is currently receiving great support from the people. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang - a business owner in Hoang Hon town said: "We strongly support the determination of the City leaders in ensuring urban beauty and creating more community works. The city is clean and beautiful, with many visitors, we also benefit a lot."

It can be seen that the strong participation of the city government and the awareness and consensus of the people are showing a transformation, a positive change in development thinking, so that Phu Quoc can catch up with the times and become an ecological island, aiming for sustainable and long-term development.

Promote community and civic projects

In addition to drastic measures to restore the city's landscape, the local government is also implementing many projects to build community areas, increasing amenities and experiences for tourists and residents. In particular, the An Thoi red soil area is being invested in to become a sea square, the largest public beach in Phu Quoc, connected to the landscape axis. The project not only contributes to beautifying the pristine Red soil area, full of shops, but also opens up an attractive entertainment space, gathering large-scale events and festivals, increasing amenities for the people of the Pearl Island while attracting domestic and foreign tourists.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Khoa: “This is a very important task that the City and An Thoi Ward have been and are implementing vigorously, so that in the near future the beach will be cleaned up, and there will be no more encroachment on the beach causing a messy situation. We also call on businesses with passion and resources to invest in creating a beautiful and classy beach for the people and tourists."

In the future, in the center of Hoang Hon Town, An Thoi Ward will also invest and build an international general hospital with high-quality medical examination and treatment. This is considered a project of special significance when Phu Quoc not only welcomes a large number of tourists, but also aims to be a place to settle down, a place for many people both at home and abroad, a "second home" for the upper class to come here to rest long-term and regularly.

A series of quality and visionary community projects are creating many opportunities for Phu Quoc to develop into an economic zone with the connotation of building the island into a special tourism and trade center according to the planning issued by the Government since 2013.

Promoting urban renovation and improvement, while attracting investment in public spaces and public utilities, are important steps for Phu Quoc to elevate its destination, affirming its brand as an ecological island, a clean and green tourist island city, an international destination with a worthy appearance as the second most wonderful island in the world by Maldives, recently honored by Travel + Leisure.
