At the conference, Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, said: The approved planning is an important basis for Kien Giang province to implement synchronous investment projects to modernize the infrastructure of Phu Quoc international airport. Thereby not only contributing to the successful organization of APEC 2027 but also promoting the development of Phu Quoc City as a leading attractive destination in the region.

According to the project presentation of ADCC - Vietnam's leading company in the field of consulting on airport construction, before APEC 2027, Phu Quoc airport will be expanded with the goal of reaching a capacity of 18 million passengers/year, 4.5 times higher than the current situation (4 million passengers/year). The goal is that by 2050, the airport will be upgraded with a capacity of 50 million passengers/year.

In addition to the existing runway, the airport will be built with a new runway No. 2. The two runways are 3,500m and 3,300m long, respectively, ensuring the port's operations are efficient and safe, ensuring service for wide-body aircraft and long-haul international flights from Europe and the US.

In addition, the aircraft parking lot has been expanded with 70-80 parking spaces, meeting the goal of welcoming heads and senior leaders of economies at the APEC 2027 event as soon as possible and ensuring to meet the needs of Phu Quoc in organizing international events in the future.
