On February 5, the Department of Transport of Quang Binh province said that in 2024, traffic accidents in the province continued to decrease compared to 2023, marking the 15th consecutive year of traffic accident reduction. The whole province had 198 traffic accidents, killing 109 people and injuring 129 people. Compared to 2023, there were 21 fewer cases (10%), 6 fewer deaths (5%), and 24 fewer injuries (16%).
This is the result of close coordination between functional agencies, strong direction from the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee, along with effective traffic management measures.
Units such as the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, Department of Transport, Provincial Police and local authorities have deployed many synchronous solutions and mobilized resources to ensure traffic order and safety.
However, some localities still recorded an increase in the number of accidents and the number of deaths due to traffic accidents remained high. Many violations such as driving on the wrong side of the road, overtaking illegally, speeding, carrying more passengers than the prescribed number, not wearing helmets, encroaching on traffic safety corridors and overloading are still common. Some roads and intersections are at high risk of traffic accidents due to lack of timely upgrading and maintenance.
To effectively implement the Traffic Safety Year 2025, Chairman of the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee Tran Phong directed agencies and units to thoroughly grasp and enhance their responsibility in state management of ensuring traffic order and safety. Authorities at all levels must take stronger action to continue reducing traffic accidents compared to 2024.
The provincial police, the Department of Transport and localities need to step up patrolling, controlling and strictly handling violations according to regulations in the Government's Decrees on traffic safety and order.
The Department of Transport and local authorities must speed up the progress of key transport projects, repair black spots, handle illegal self-opened crossings across railways and ensure traffic safety at complex intersections.
The Provincial People's Committee will consider allocating funds to install additional traffic light systems, traffic surveillance cameras, signs and equipment for traffic patrol and control.
