On August 13, at Chu Lai airport (Da Nang City), the Immigration Management Department of Da Nang City Police coordinated with the Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command to inspect, preserve and technically handle 2,213 samples of martyrs' remains.
This is the second biological sample handover of the province, transported from the biological sample preservation room of the Provincial Military Command to Chu Lai airport, then taken to Noi Bai airport and transferred to the Military Forensic Institute (Hanoi) to serve DNA testing and identify missing martyrs.
Previously, Quang Ngai had handed over the first batch of 1,135 biological samples. Thus, as of August 13, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of the province has handed over a total of 3,348 biological samples to the Military Forensic Institute.
Major Nguyen Trung Luu - Assistant of the Policy Department, Political Department (Provincial Military Command) said that biological samples are collected, filed, encoded, sealed and preserved according to technical procedures before handover. The transportation is closely coordinated by forces, ensuring safety and maintaining the conditions for preserving samples, serving DNA testing.
Quang Ngai currently has 127 martyrs' cemeteries with nearly 37.7 thousand graves. According to the plan, the province will collect biological samples from 13.656 thousand graves that have not been identified at 113 cemeteries.
The workload is very large, while the campaign implementation time is limited. Therefore, Quang Ngai identifies biological sampling as a key task, requiring total mobilization of sectors, localities and specialized forces.
To accelerate progress, the Provincial Military Command has just additionally established 4 sampling teams, including Team 9, Team 10, Team 11 and Team 12, bringing the total number to 12 teams together with the specialized team to perform the task of sampling, handing over samples and digitizing data on martyrs' remains in the area.
Colonel Trinh Cong Son - Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command said that the establishment of additional sample collection teams is to meet the requirements of progress; and at the same time ensure that each tomb is fully implemented in all stages from excavation, sample collection, dossier preparation to information digitization.
Taking samples to identify martyrs' remains is a particularly important task, contributing to gradually identifying martyrs who lack information, meeting the expectations of martyrs' relatives" - Colonel Trinh Cong Son emphasized.
According to the plan, Quang Ngai strives to complete the collection of biological samples for unidentified graves before October 2026, 5 months ahead of schedule.
