More than 1,000 visitors to Ly Son Island every day
Currently, the Sa Ky - Ly Son and Quang Ngai routes have 10 passenger transport ships entering and leaving the island, receiving an average of more than 1,000 passengers per day. Passenger transport ships are all modern high-speed ships, fully meeting all conditions for operation.
Every time visitors to Ly Son special zone increase, the Quang Ngai Provincial Inland Waterway Port and Port Management Board directs passenger and cargo transport units to develop plans, arrange appropriate train schedules to meet transportation needs on the route, and at the same time, organize the right route for passenger pick-ups, not allowing congestion.
The Management Board also coordinates with functional units to strengthen inspection and control, ensure safety and order on the route; closely monitor weather developments to guide ships to operate safely. In addition to the Sa Ky - Ly Son route, the Long Island - Be Island route in Ly Son special zone currently has 12 transport vehicles in operation.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Nhan - Director of the Department of Construction of Quang Ngai province - said that after the incident of the Green Bay ship 58 QN-7105 sinking in Quang Ninh, causing many deaths, recently at a meeting, the Department's leaders requested the Traffic Safety Department to advise on documents directing competent authorities to strengthen the work of ensuring safety for the Sa Ky - Ly Son waterway passenger transport route. Especially during the storm season, the Sa Ky - Ly Son passenger transport routes and vice versa must temporarily suspend operations to ensure the safety of people and tourists. Only when permitted by the authorities can it operate again.
Da Nang comprehensively inspects tourist transport routes
The Department of Construction of Da Nang City has also immediately issued a directive to comprehensively tighten the management and ensuring traffic safety on inland waterways, especially tourist transport routes. This move will both improve service quality and proactively respond to unusual weather developments.
The Department of Construction requires the Quang Nam Maritime Port Authority - the unit managing the operation of national inland waterways in Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham; Thu Bon River... and the Da Nang Inland Waterways Port Authority to strictly check the safety conditions of the vehicles before letting them leave the port. The directive emphasizes that it will be determined not to grant a license for the following cases: Vehicles lacking fire prevention and fighting equipment, life jackets, life buoys; vehicles carrying more people than the prescribed number and crew members showing signs of using stimulants.
Transport business units, port and wharf owners are also required to increase their responsibility. It is necessary to strictly implement regulations on service quality, maintain safety at ports and wharves and proactively develop disaster response plans. Portes and wharves are not allowed to receive vehicles without or with expired registration and technical safety certificates.
The responsibility of the captain is also emphasized, to check the safety conditions of the vehicle himself and mandatoryly instruct passengers to use life buoys before each trip. This comprehensive measure is expected to create a safe, disciplined waterway transportation environment, maximum protection of people and tourists' lives and property.
