On October 9, the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ngai province said that the whole province currently has 17 hydropower projects under construction with a total capacity of 336.9 MW; 13 hydropower projects are preparing for construction with a total capacity of 132.2 MW.
Most large-scale hydropower plants with high investment rates are located in mountainous areas with steep terrain, and the economic life of local people is still difficult.
Accordingly, the Tra Khuc 2 hydropower project (in Son Linh commune) invested by Tra Khuc 2 Hydropower Joint Stock Company has a capacity of 30 MW (03 generators), with a total investment of more than 1,100 billion VND.

The project started construction in 2024, and has now reached about 60% of the total volume.
The Dak Trinh 2 hydropower project (in Son Ha commune) invested by Quang Ngai Energy Joint Stock Company has a capacity of 21 MW (02 generators), with a total investment of nearly 780 billion VND.
The construction unit is implementing the construction of a foundation hole for the right bank dam, 2 overflow compartments, reinforcing the right bank dam slope, and building a factory quay dike to the designed elevation of 66.80 m.
Hydropower plants have large investment rates, high water poles, and strong flow. Quang Ngai province requires investors and construction units to develop disaster prevention plans to ensure safety during the rainy and stormy season.
The province affirms that hydropower projects play an important role in the economic development of the locality. Therefore, the Provincial People's Committee requested relevant departments and branches to provide legal support and resolve difficulties in compensation and site clearance.
Currently, the mountainous areas of Quang Ngai province have many large-scale hydropower projects located along major rivers such as Tra Khuc and Dak Snghe, originating from the Kon Tum upland.
In Mang But and Mang Ri communes, hydropower plants have been put into operation such as: Thuong Kon Tum, Dak Dinh and Dak Re.

Thuong Kon Tum Hydropower Plant (investment capital of VND9,500 billion) is the largest project in the Central Highlands, with a capacity of 220 MW including 2 generators, annual electricity output reaching 1,094 million kWh, storage capacity of 145 million m3.
Dak Trinh Hydropower Plant has a capacity of 125 MW, invested by Dak Trinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company - Vietnam Oil and Gas Power Corporation (PV Power - now National Energy Group).
After consecutive earthquakes, project investors have proactively inspected dams, construction quality and practiced response plans to bad situations such as landslides, natural disasters, floods, etc.
