In Tien Yen district, at around 6am this morning, the flood rose rapidly, overflowing the Ha Thanh dam, causing dozens of households, hundreds of hectares of rice, and household items to be submerged in water. The water has now receded. Hundreds of officers and soldiers are helping people clean up.
Ha Thanh Dam, Dong Hai Commune, Tien Yen District, was built in the early 1990s of the last century. Although it has been reinforced several times, the dam has seriously degraded. Ha Thanh Dam is nearly 1,000m long and is responsible for protecting nearly 200 households with nearly 700 people.
Currently, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Tien Yen district has directed Dong Hai commune to closely monitor the river water on Ha Thanh dam, and at the same time activate the plan to evacuate people to safe places to ensure the safety of people and property.
In Dong Trieu town, 13/19 lakes have overflow water levels from 5-40cm, 2/19 lakes have overflow water levels; 4 lakes have overflow water levels 5-64cm lower than the overflow threshold. Some canal sections have collapsed.
The water level at the pumping stations for drainage in the suction tank is 10-80 cm higher than the water level that must be pumped, such as: Dam Thuy, Viet Dan, Hong Phong, Kim Son, Duc Chinh pumping stations... currently have no power so they cannot operate the irrigation water drainage.
Some aquaculture areas were flooded such as Xuan Son ward, 17/17 aquaculture households were completely flooded; Hong Thai Dong ward, 38 aquaculture households were flooded, 43 hectares of aquaculture were damaged; Hoang Que ward, 30 hectares of aquaculture were damaged; Trang An ward, also lost 4.5 hectares of aquaculture... All residents in the aquaculture area have been evacuated to a safe place.
In Uong Bi City, many solutions have been implemented to support the evacuation and provide meals for 160 flooded households.
Previously, from the evening of September 7 to September 8, over 160 households in zones 5 and 6 (Bac Son ward); zone 9 (Quang Trung ward); Dien Cong zone (Trung Vuong ward); zones 1 and 3 (Vang Danh ward) of Uong Bi city were all flooded from 1m to 4m deep. In Dien Cong area alone, floodwaters overflowed the dike, threatening to break the dike, isolating 28 households inside the dike.
Uong Bi City has implemented the most active measures to drain water and promptly rescue flooded residential areas. In particular, the city has concentrated vehicles, machines, equipment and people from military units; deployed according to the plan to approach and support people at the earliest time.
By the afternoon of September 8, floodwaters in the above-mentioned flooded residential areas had receded. Currently, local authorities and mass organizations are joining hands to support people in cleaning, scooping up mud, searching for assets, and ensuring environmental sanitation. Uong Bi City prioritizes providing water to households in the above-mentioned areas to wash and clean their houses and assets, avoiding potential risks of disease outbreaks.
According to the Quang Ninh Province Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of the tropical convergence zone with an axis through the North combined with the weak strengthening of continental cold high pressure; from the night of September 9 to September 11, Quang Ninh province will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and thunderstorms in some places.
Rainfall in some places is 150-200mm, some places over 300mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
