Through grasping information and public opinion related to the nurturing of children at Cam La Pagoda, Phong Coc Ward, implementing the direction of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Health organized 2 working groups to work with the People's Committees of Phong Coc Ward and Cam La Pagoda to inspect, verify and clarify.
The Department of Health determined that Cam La Pagoda is a religious facility, a relic, not a social assistance facility and has not been licensed to operate child care and nurturing according to regulations. The pagoda's self-reception, care, and nurturing of children at the pagoda is not in accordance with the provisions of law.
To ensure the rights of children according to the provisions of law, the Department of Health has requested the abbot of the pagoda to hand over the children who have not been adopted to their families as soon as possible; for children who have not been handed over to their families and relatives, Phong Coc Ward People's Committee will carry out procedures to take them to Quang Ninh Social Assistance Center.
The pagoda needs to recall and not post videos or images of children for charity purposes, in case of continued posting, the pagoda must be responsible according to the provisions of law.
The Department of Health will continue to coordinate with Phong Coc Ward People's Committee and relevant agencies to ensure children's rights in accordance with the law. It is known that there are currently more than 10 children being nurtured at Cam La Pagoda.
To continue to manage well the care and assistance for children and vulnerable and vulnerable groups at social assistance facilities, organizations, and individuals in the province, the Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch requesting departments, agencies, branches, and localities to actively participate.
