Quang Ninh releases buckwheat in some large lakes, proactively prevents floods from storm No. 11

Quang Ninh - Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 11, Quang Ninh province has proactively released buffer gas in some large reservoirs, increased flood prevention capacity, and ensured safety of works.

According to the report of the Quang Ninh Irrigation Department, the whole province currently has 189 lakes, of which 176 reservoirs are in operation.

The total designed capacity of reservoirs reached 365.59 million m3; irrigation capacity was 33,102 ha; domestic and industrial water supply was 36.3 million m3; water supply for aquaculture was about 2,450 ha.

As of October 4, the total amount of water stored in 45 large lakes in the area reached 303.3 million m3, equivalent to 91.8% of the total designed capacity. Of which, 7 reservoirs with over 10 million m3 have a total water storage of approximately 92% of the total designed capacity.

Yen Lap Lake - the largest reservoir in the province with a designed capacity of 127.5 million m3 - currently has an elevation of 29.5 m, equivalent to 93% of the designed capacity.

To proactively prevent floods, the lake management unit, Yen Lap Quang Ninh Irrigation One Member Co., Ltd. (Yen Lap Irrigation Company), has discharged buffer at 5:00 p.m. on October 3, 2025.

The management unit also directed the Center Management Cluster and Cao Van Station to monitor, monitor and report water levels and safety status of reservoirs regularly; prepare human resources, materials and equipment for storm prevention and control. The system of machinery, equipment, and generators has been inspected, ensuring stable operation.

The unit has coordinated with local authorities to ban boats and people from moving near reservoirs, lowering the water level in the fields at Dong Mai, Hiep Hoa, Quang Yen, Ha An, Phong Coc, Lien Hoa, Yen Tu to ensure drainage and limit flooding.

The canal system, drainage, factories, warehouses, and management stations have been inspected and reinforced.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung - Chairman of Yen Lap Irrigation Company - said: "The company has directed officers, employees, and employees to concentrate 100% of their forces according to the assigned decision to be present at irrigation works to prepare for response measures to storm No. 11.

The unit also proactively contacts businesses in the area about means of transportation, machinery, equipment, and is ready to operate if a construction incident occurs. The natural disaster prevention and control force in coordination with the militia and self-defense forces of 120 people has been divided into units, ready to conduct rescue, and overcome construction incidents when necessary".

Other large lakes in the province such as Khe Giua Lake were released at 9:00 a.m. on October 4, ensuring flood prevention capacity. Chuc Bai Son Lake is opening the spillway, the opening height is 0.3m; the discharge flow is 6.90 m3/s. Ha Dong Dam Lake is opening 1 spillway, opening at 0.5m; discharge is 31.5 m3/s. The lakes with free overflow, water levels up to the overflow threshold or exceeding the overflow, are all being discharged through the culvert and free overflow with a discharge flow of 0.01 to 0.59 m3/s, ensuring the safety of the project and the downstream area.

Consecutive storms No. 8, 9.10 (Bualoi) and floods caused by the storm have killed, left missing, and injured 165 people; many houses and production and business establishments have had their roofs blown off and suffered heavy damage.
