Offering incense at the General's tomb
On August 25, to celebrate the 115th birthday of General Vo Nguyen Giap (August 25, 1911 - August 25, 2026), a delegation from Quang Tri province came to offer incense and flowers to commemorate the General at the tomb in Vung Chua, Phu Trach commune.
The delegation was led by Mr. Tran Vu Khiem - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Tri province.
At the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap, delegates offered incense, flowers and observed a minute of silence to commemorate the General, the excellent and close student of President Ho Chi Minh, the Oldest Brother of the Vietnam People's Army.
General Vo Nguyen Giap made great contributions to the cause of fighting for national independence and freedom, national reunification as well as the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland.
Before the spirit of the General, delegates expressed their sincere respect and gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of the General and revolutionary generations to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
Promoting the tradition of solidarity, revolutionary spirit and values that General Vo Nguyen Giap and previous generations cultivated, the delegation of Quang Tri province vows to continue to uphold the spirit of responsibility, solidarity, and join forces to build the homeland, contributing to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland.
On this occasion, delegates also offered incense to commemorate General Vo Nguyen Giap's wife, expressing gratitude for the General's family's contributions to the country and homeland.
The house marking the General's childhood
Vung Chua, where General Vo Nguyen Giap rests, the General's hometown in An Xa, Le Thuy commune, Quang Tri province is also a place that many people come to during commemorations related to the General.
The 3-compartment wooden house located by the Kien Giang River is where General Vo Nguyen Giap cried to welcome life and spent his childhood years.
The house was once burned down by the French army in 1947. After the country's reunification, the project was restored on the old land of the General's family.
Mr. Vo Dai Ham - the grandson who calls the General grandfather, said that the 3-compartment stilt house and kitchen are currently restored after the country's reunification on the old foundation of General Vo Nguyen Giap's parents' house.
Since being restored, the house has undergone 2 repairs, gradually approaching the former house shape of the General's family.
According to Mr. Ham, General Vo Nguyen Giap loved this house very much. Later, every time he returned to visit his hometown, the General often spent time sleeping here for at least one night and chatting with the villagers.
Over the years, the memorial house of General Vo Nguyen Giap in An Xa has become an address sought after by people and tourists during the country's holidays as well as the anniversary of the General's birth and death.
Here, stories about family, childhood, love for homeland and family traditions of General Vo Nguyen Giap continue to be preserved, helping people and tourists understand more about the life of the General born by the Kien Giang River.
