On October 2, Mr. Doan Ngoc Co - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that the provincial authorities will establish a team to inspect pig farming projects in the area, mainly in the western area.
From 2020 to now, the western area of Gia Lai has hotly developed large-scale pig farms on large land funds.
In communes such as Po To, Ia Pia, Bo Ngoong, Chu Se, Ia Le... there are many large-scale industrial pig farms, the number of pigs and the amount of wastewater that needs to be treated to discharge into the environment is quite high.
The People's Committee of Gia Lai province requested functional agencies to temporarily suspend proposals for additional pig farming projects in the form of farms. The Department of Finance and the Department of Agriculture and Environment will establish inspection teams for projects that are behind schedule or not implemented.
"The Department is assigned to make a master plan for livestock development, as a basis for approving investment policies for pig farm projects in the coming time," said Mr. Doan Ngoc Co.
As Lao Dong Newspaper has reported, the communes in the west of Gia Lai province currently have more than 200 pig farming projects in the form of farms. According to the assessment, in the past, some farms have not fully complied with regulations on environmental protection.
The taxpayer will fine small-scale farms that cause pollution from 1015 million VND, while large-scale farms will be 1520 million VND. While the investment capital of the projects is up to hundreds of billions of VND, the current penalty level is considered light, not enough to deter violating businesses.
There are currently no regulations on technology appraisal for large-scale livestock projects. The regulation on the distance between the farm and the residential area (100400m) is also considered too close. Gia Lai province needs to propose to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to amend related circulars to ensure environmental safety, hygiene and disease prevention.
