Dien Bien - The rain on the evening of August 25 caused more than 20m of the stadium fence of Dien Bien province to collapse.

On the afternoon of August 26, Mr. Lo Van Cuong - Standing Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders of some departments, branches and Dien Bien Phu ward, inspected the actual area of the stadium fence that collapsed after a heavy rain.

At the scene, Mr. Lo Van Cuong requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Dien Bien Phu Ward People's Committee and related units to urgently review the entire current status of the stadium fence.

The units are required to assess the level of impact, determine the cause of the incident, and at the same time inspect locations at risk of unsafety to have handling plans, ensuring safety for people and surrounding areas.

Previously, late at night on August 25, a heavy rain with thunderstorms occurred in the central area of Dien Bien province. Heavy rain caused localized flooding on many roads, causing traffic difficulties.

Notably, at about 9:02 pm, a section of the wall surrounding the Dien Bien provincial stadium suddenly collapsed. The incident caused a nearby power pole to also break and fall down, causing people living in the area to panic.

People said that this fence area has been built for a long time. Previously, some items here were built for the purpose of shielding water.

The inspection and assessment of the current status of the entire remaining fence is to prevent the risk of unsafety, especially in the context that the weather in the area may continue to experience heavy rain.

It is known that from about October 2023 to April 2024, Dien Bien province has carried out many renovation and repair phases with large expenses, aiming to upgrade the grass surface, stands and athletes' houses to serve major events of the province.

The project will continue to be renovated in March 2025 to serve the opening night of the Ban Flower Festival, before a section of the fence collapsed in a heavy rain on the evening of August 25, 2026.
