On March 6, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company said that the barge collision with Ghenh bridge caused the railway track to deviate, disrupting the North-South railway line through this area, and the scene is being sealed off to handle the incident.
In addition, trains departing from Saigon station must be temporarily suspended, and the railway industry is planning to transfer passengers by road through Bien Hoa station to continue their journey.
Accordingly, after the incident occurs, the bridge cannot be reopened immediately but must be repaired, which may take many days, and then the bridge must be re-inspected to ensure safety or not. At the same time, it is necessary to continue transporting passengers and goods through the North-South railway line.
According to initial information, at about 10 am on March 6, a barge moving on the Dong Nai River when reaching the area of Bien Hoa ward, Tran Bien ward, collided with Ghenh bridge.
This is a railway and road exploitation bridge.
The sudden incident caused panic among people riding motorbikes on the bridge (road bridge section), the motorbikes fell to the road, and 2 injured people were supported by people to be taken to the emergency room.
A resident near the scene said he heard a very loud collision.
According to reporters' records at the scene, the railway tracks are skewed, many sections on the spans are bent and deformed...
Dong Nai Provincial Police, Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company and functional agencies were present at the scene to assess damage and investigate and verify the incident.
