The air pollution season in Hanoi and the northern provinces usually takes place from October of the previous year to April of the following year. This year, due to the impact of storms and floods, the pollution season started later, and now (middle of November), the pollution season has begun.
According to the IQ Air air quality index measuring application, as of 10:15 a.m. on November 17, Hanoi had AQI 172 at the red threshold - harmful to health.
According to the VN Air application of the Department of Environment (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), 3 measuring stations in Hanoi recorded the air quality index at the level of harm to health. Specifically as follows:
grapefruit Free Trade Station parabol Gate on Giai Phong Street: AQI 164 (red level); Station 556 Nguyen Van Cu: AQI 160 (red level); Thanh Xuan Park Station: AQI 146 (orange level).
With this pollution situation, experts recommend that people limit outdoor activities, especially in the early morning and late afternoon, and use fine dust masks when traveling in the city.
To overcome air pollution, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has worked with ministries, branches and localities (especially Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) to develop and submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of the National Action Plan on overcoming air pollution and managing air quality for the period 2026 - 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The Ministry has also formed a network to connect and share information, weekly, synthesizing the contents and activities (from ministries, branches and localities) to report to the Prime Minister. At the same time, develop a plan to carry out a number of urgent tasks in the period from the end of 2025 to 2026 ( focusing on the time of recording pollution from November to April of the following year) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to overcome the air pollution situation in Hanoi.
AQI is an air quality monitoring index ranging from 0-500, the higher the index, the higher the pollution level and the higher the impact on health. indices above 300 are considered harmful to health, while 0-50 shows good air quality.
