Regarding the issue of landfill No. 8 (Cai Rang district) located on the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project under the North - South expressway construction project in the East phase 2021-2025, on November 8, the leader of the Project Management Board and Land Fund Development of Cai Rang district said that the contractor selection has been completed, and construction is expected to start on November 15.
This leader also said that within 45 days, by December 31, the relocation of the garbage overlapping the highway construction site will be completed, in time to hand over the site to the investor according to the direction of the City People's Committee.
At the conference to remove difficulties and obstacles and promote the development of transport infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region held on October 16, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Tran Viet Truong said that the People's Committee of Cai Rang District has approved the design and estimate with the area of the landfill that needs to be relocated being 1.95 hectares.
The Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee also informed that the implementation cost is 13.08 billion VND and will complete the handover of 100% of the site before December 31.
According to a report from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Can Tho, landfill No. 8 has an area of 4.3 hectares with a total waste volume of over 162,000 tons.
The Project Management and Land Fund Development Board of Cai Rang District said that when handling the landfill, it is necessary to dig 7-8m deep and about 46m wide to serve the construction of a road about 145m long and two fish-carrying roads connecting to National Highway 1.
On the afternoon of October 29, Can Tho City People's Committee announced that the relocation of landfill No. 8 will be divided into 2 phases. In phase 1, Cai Rang District People's Committee will carry out the relocation of the garbage volume overlapping with the North-South Expressway east of landfill No. 8; In phase 2, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment will prepare a project to relocate and treat the entire landfill No. 8.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway Project, part of the North - South Eastern Expressway Project, started construction on January 1, 2023, is more than 110km long, passing through 5 provinces and cities: Can Tho, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, Ca Mau. The project has a total investment of more than VND 27,500 billion, divided into 2 component projects: Can Tho - Hau Giang (37km) and Hau Giang - Ca Mau (73km).
