Landslides happen every day
On November 26, the People's Committee of Nam N'Dir commune (Krong No district) said that the unit had just sent a report to superiors regarding the landslide situation on the Krong No river.
Previously, through inspection, the People's Committee of Nam N'Dir commune discovered 3 strong landslides along the main road in Nam Dao village and Nam Ninh village. The landslide in the area of pumping station No. 1, Nam Ninh village caused the electric pole (T471/KRN/200/10/4) to fall into the river. This led to the inability to operate irrigation pumps for production in the fields in the area of pumping stations No. 01, 01A of Nam N'Dir commune in the 2024 - 2025 Winter-Spring crop.
Not only that, this point also had about 190m of concrete road in the field eroded. In addition, about 180m of N1 canal collapsed into the river, making it impossible to carry irrigation water.
According to the leader of Nam N'Dir commune, the landslide is still expanding. If it is not promptly remedied, it will continue to erode deeper into people's cultivated land, drainage canal systems, internal roads and power lines serving production in the fields.
The remaining two landslides are in Nam Dao village. The first landslide is at pumping station No. 1A, about 230m long. The landslide has crossed the dirt road and broken the internal canal into the river. Currently, it has also eroded into people's cultivated land.
Landslide No. 2 at pumping station No. 2 is about 350m long. The landslide has reached the foot of the main road in the field and there is a risk of landslides on the main road in the field and irrigation canals.
The People's Committee of Nam N'Dir commune requested the People's Committee of Krong No district and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Krong No district to pay attention, consider, and have a solution to ensure traffic routes, irrigation canals, and power lines serving production at the above-mentioned landslide locations.
200 billion VND needed to prevent landslides on Krong No river
Regarding the landslides on the Krong No River, the District People’s Committee has recorded 18 landslides, with a total length of about 10km. Since 2010, more than 122 hectares of cultivated land along the riverbank have been washed away by the water.
Not only local people's land but also the canal system, internal ditches and rural roads are victims of this landslide.
In order to overcome the landslide situation, in 2020, Dak Nong province spent 62 billion VND to implement a project to prevent riverbank landslides in Nam N'dir and Dak Nang communes of Krong No district.
However, in reality, the length of embankment and reinforcement on the Krong No river bank is just a drop in the ocean compared to the current landslide situation.
The situation of landslides on the banks of the Krong No River has been recognized by all levels and leaders of the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, and many solutions have been proposed. However, the problem the province is facing is funding.
In October 2024, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province sent a document to central ministries and branches requesting support of 620 billion VND from the central budget reserve or other sources of increased budget revenue for the province to implement embankment projects to prevent landslides on river banks, streams, and important irrigation lakes...
Among them, there is the project to prevent landslides on the banks of the Krong No River, through Duc Xuyen Commune, Krong No District, with a total estimated investment of 200 billion VND.
