On August 25, information from Yen Na Commune People's Committee (Nghe An province) said that the locality has completed the urgent relocation of 45 households with 96 people in Khe Chong residential area, Ban Ve, due to the risk of landslides.
In recent days, heavy rain has caused landslides in many locations in Yen Na commune, in which the Khe Chong area is at risk of directly affecting people's lives and property.
Right on the night of August 24, the Steering Committee for Civil Defense of Yen Na commune coordinated with the Management Board of Ban Ve to relocate all 45 households out of the unsafe area.
By late night of the same day, the evacuation work was completed. Among them, 19 households with 35 people were temporarily arranged in the Ban Ve Hydropower operation area; 26 households with 61 people were arranged interspersed at relatives' houses in safe areas.
After people stabilized temporary accommodation, local authorities and the Vẽ Village Management Board organized a centralized kitchen, supporting daily life for households who had to evacuate.
At the same time, due to the impact of heavy rain, the water flow to Ban Ve Hydropower reservoir increased sharply. From 9 am on August 25, Ban Ve Hydropower Company operated to regulate the reservoir, with a total discharge flow downstream expected from 340m3/s to 1,200m3/s, including the amount of water through the power generating unit and through the spillway. The discharge flow may change depending on the amount of floodwater to the reservoir.
According to data at 4:00 PM on August 24, the water flow to Ban Ve reservoir was about 2,070m3/s, the reservoir water level was at an elevation of 190.5m, and the discharge through the generating unit was about 328m3/s. The regulation was carried out to ensure reservoir safety and cut and reduce floods for the downstream area.
Yen Na commune authorities said that in the context of complicated weather conditions, forces continue to maintain duty and monitor key areas at risk of landslides to promptly deploy plans to ensure safety for people.
