Information from the Vietnam Road Administration, prolonged heavy rain due to the impact of storm No. 1's circulation has caused a series of landslides of positive slopes, soil and rocks overflowing the road surface and fallen trees on National Highway 6 through Dien Bien province.
Road management units have urgently mobilized manpower and machinery to overcome the incident, and so far traffic on most sections has been restored.
According to Road Management Zone I, from July 5 to the early morning of July 9, heavy rain caused landslides at many locations on National Highway 6, the section from Km383+207 to Km475+200 in Dien Bien province.
Many landslides caused traffic disruption for many hours. In which, at Km396+600, a positive taluy landslide with fallen trees caused traffic congestion from 5:30 to 7:10 am on July 9. At Km409+050, soil and rocks overflowed the road surface, causing traffic disruption from 4:30 to 7:15 am.
Landslides also occurred at Km398+770, Km399+280, Km399+330 and Km463+740, trees fell and soil and rocks overflowed the road surface, but they have been handled and traffic restored on the morning of July 9.

Units organized barriers and placed warning signs at landslide locations, and at the same time mobilized 6 tire excavators, 1 track excavator, 1 overturning excavator, 5 cars and workers to focus on clearing soil and rocks, urgently clearing the road.
In parallel with the recovery work, Road Management Zone I coordinates with local authorities to agree on a traffic diversion plan and arrange locations for soil and rock gathering, ready to handle if landslides continue to occur.
Up to now, traffic on most sections of National Highway 6 through Dien Bien has returned to normal. Separately, locations with high risk of landslides are still being monitored by functional forces, arranged to be on duty and regulate traffic when necessary.

According to Road Management Zone I, due to the forecast that heavy rain will continue in Dien Bien province in the coming days, the unit will continue to closely monitor weather developments, update the situation and report to the Vietnam Road Administration.
