Son La - After many days of rain and floods, large reservoirs in Son La are still operating safely, proactively regulating water, ensuring power generation, irrigation and safety in the downstream area.

At Son La hydropower reservoir, the current water level is at 198.37m, still within safe limits. The plant does not have to open the bottom discharge gate, 6/6 units maintain stable power generation. The work of monitoring water level, water flow to the reservoir and operating the project is carried out closely and proactively according to rain and flood developments.

Maintaining power generation in safe water conditions shows that the operation of the reservoir is being controlled, both ensuring project safety and meeting electricity supply requirements.

Recorded at Nam Chien hydropower reservoir, Ngoc Chien commune, the amount of water entering the reservoir increased after many days of heavy rain. The management unit proactively operates and discharges floodwater according to procedures. Construction items are regularly inspected, water level and water flow to the reservoir are monitored to promptly regulate.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha, Deputy General Director of Nam Chien Hydropower Joint Stock Company, said that the unit maintains a on-duty force, regularly inspects works, monitors water level developments and water flow to the reservoir, and is ready to handle arising situations.

According to Mr. Ha, the operation and discharge of water are carried out in accordance with procedures, ensuring dam safety, downstream areas and maintaining power generation operations.

At Ban Mong Lake, Chieng Coi ward, the water level is still low. The amount of water stored in the lake is not large, so the management unit is opening a valve to regulate and serve irrigation for the downstream area.

The water flow is regulated stably, meeting production needs. Operation is controlled according to procedures, both ensuring irrigation water sources and maintaining the lake water level at a safe level.

Mr. Lo Van Hai, a resident of the downstream area of Ban Mong Lake, said that water from the lake plays an important role in agricultural production. The fact that the lake is monitored, operated and regulated reasonably helps people feel secure in production after heavy rain days.

At Chieng Khoi lake, Yen Chau commune, the water level is currently quite stable. The project ensures safety after floods, and the water source continues to be regulated to serve downstream production.

Mr. Phan Huy Binh, Head of the Branch of Son La Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Co., Ltd. in Yen Chau, said that Chieng Khoi Lake has a capacity of more than 3.1 million m3, serving irrigation of about 240ha of two-crop rice and 40ha of humid irrigation.

After the rain and flood, the unit will continue to closely monitor weather developments, reservoir water levels and inspect construction items, ensure dam safety, and proactively regulate water to serve downstream production," Mr. Binh said.

The whole province currently has 111 reservoirs, management units maintain on-duty forces, regularly inspect works, monitor water levels and water flow to reservoirs to proactively operate and regulate.
