Gia Lai - Provincial functional agencies are stretching ropes and placing signs prohibiting vehicles with large tonnage from circulating on the western Pleiku bypass to limit the risk of similar accidents.

On the morning of September 1, after the passenger car accident that killed 4 people, functional agencies of Gia Lai province stretched ropes and placed signs prohibiting large tonnage vehicles from circulating on the western Pleiku bypass.

At the beginning of the route, the section belonging to Hoi Phu ward, in addition to hanging ropes, functional agencies also placed barriers to block the road so that vehicles could not turn right to circulate on the bypass.

The ban applies to vehicles with large tonnage such as dump trucks, trucks, and passenger cars. People's motorbikes and 4-seater cars can still circulate.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Construction said that the western Pleiku bypass connecting to National Highway 19 was completed in October 2024.

However, this road has not been handed over or accepted due to some unfinished items; compensation and site clearance have not completed procedures and local voters still reflect and propose some problems.

Along with the upgrading and expansion of National Highway 19, the West Pleiku bypass project is about 15 km long, invested by Project Management Board 2 (now under the Ministry of Construction).

According to PV's records, the project route passes through sparsely populated residential areas, mainly agricultural land of people. However, on the road there are many level crossings for people, spontaneous walkways, posing a high risk of accidents.

In addition, the embankments around the road in the rainy season easily spill onto the road surface, making the road surface slippery. This may also be one of the reasons for the unfortunate accident.

As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at about 3:10 am on August 31, at Km10+600 of the western Pleiku bypass road, in Hoi Phu ward, a traffic accident occurred when a sleeper bus was traveling on an unused road. The bus overturned, killing 4 people and injuring many others.

At the scene of the accident, at the time of the incident, there were 31 passengers, 2 drivers and 1 assistant driver inside the car.
