Thanh Hoa - The bottom discharge valve incident at Cam Thuy 1 Hydropower Plant caused the lake water level to drop rapidly, about 3.8 tons of caged fish raised by people died.

On September 6, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leadership of Cam Tu Commune People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, said that the water level in the Cam Thuy 1 hydropower reservoir has returned to normal and is no longer as low as at noon on September 5.

Previously, at noon on September 5, a bottom discharge valve of Cam Thuy 1 Hydropower Plant, belonging to Infrastructure and Transport Construction Investment Joint Stock Company, encountered an incident, causing the water in the lake to drop rapidly.

At the above time, Cam Thuy 1 Hydropower Plant proceeded to close the bottom discharge valve. However, one valve could not be closed due to being pressed by a tree stump. After more than an hour, the incident was fixed.

During the time the valve gate could not be closed, the water in the lake rapidly decreased, affecting dozens of cage fish farming households.

According to initial statistics, about 3.8 tons of caged fish of households in the lake area died.

After the incident occurred, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the locality to statistically count the number of caged fish damaged, and at the same time assess the cause of the incident" - a representative of Cam Tu Commune People's Committee informed.
