On the afternoon of October 16, a representative of Corporation 36 (contractor) confirmed that a work accident had just occurred at the construction package of the North-South expressway, Eastern phase 2021-2025, Can Tho - Ca Mau section (Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway).
Accordingly, the incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. the same day, at the construction site of Co 3 bridge (Nga Sau town, Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province), part of the Can Tho - Hau Giang project.
Immediately after receiving the news, the contractor arrived at the scene, coordinated with the authorities to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.
A representative of Corporation 36 said that the incident resulted in one person being slightly injured and one person dying. The contractor has sent people to support the family, focusing on the funeral arrangements for the deceased; and at the same time supporting all costs and medical treatment for the injured.
"We have directed units to further tighten the issue of ensuring labor safety at construction sites," said this representative.
According to the representative of My Thuan Project Management Board (investor), immediately after receiving the information, the unit's leaders went directly to the scene, coordinating with the authorities and the contractor to handle the incident.
The investor has requested contractors to conduct a comprehensive inspection of labor protection work during construction, especially construction of high-altitude items... in order to promptly correct and handle any safety risks, if any.
In addition, the investor also requires the contractor to pay attention and provide maximum support in all aspects, in order to partly share the losses with the victim's family.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway is over 110km long, with a total investment of over VND 27,500 billion, starting construction in January 2023 and expected to be completed in 2025. This expressway section includes two component projects: the Can Tho - Hau Giang component project is over 37km long; the Hau Giang - Ca Mau component project is over 73km long.
