According to initial information, at around 7:15 p.m. on November 23, a sleeper bus with an old Quang Binh license plate, now in Quang Tri province, was traveling towards My Dinh Bus Station.
When reaching the section near the Do Muoi road launch button, the car was suspected to have a flat front tire, lost control and plunged into a motorbike carrying two people.
The passenger bus then continued to rush forward for another section, then crashed into the bridge wall and caught fire at the front of the bus. Part of the bridge railing fell below. The bodies of the two victims were lying at the rear of the passenger bus.
The accident caused Thanh Tri Bridge to be congested for about 2 km, many drivers took more than 30 minutes to move through the congestion.
Immediately after the accident, the sleeper bus driver left the scene.
The authorities quickly arrived to block off the area, examine the scene, regulate traffic and organize the removal of the victims' bodies from the bridge.
The cause of the accident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
