On January 27, Hue City Department of Health issued official dispatch No. 454 requesting health units and localities to strengthen surveillance of the Nipah virus epidemic, closely monitor the situation in the community and border gates. The official dispatch also requested to fully prepare human resources, equipment and response plans when an epidemic situation occurs, in order to detect and handle it promptly.
The Hue City health sector recommends that people limit going to areas with Nipah virus epidemics if it is not really necessary, and proactively monitor health within 14 days after returning from the epidemic area. If suspicious symptoms appear, people need to go to a medical facility immediately for advice, examination and timely treatment. At the same time, limit contact with people around and fully inform of epidemiological history.
The health sector also emphasized disease prevention measures such as eating cooked food, drinking boiled water; not using fruits or food bitten by bats or birds; not using fresh unprocessed tree sap; limiting contact with fruit-eating bats; washing hands regularly with soap or antiseptic solution; using masks and gloves when caring for suspected patients.
Proactively preventing, combating and raising the awareness of vigilance of each citizen is an important solution, contributing to protecting personal and community health from the risk of infection from the Nipah virus.
