From the end of November to the peak of Lunar New Year 2025, Xuyen A Industrial Livestock Slaughterhouse (Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City) will have additional veterinary staff to carry out slaughter control work.
With a capacity of 3,000 pigs per day and night, this slaughterhouse currently slaughters 1,100 pigs per day, expected to increase to 2,000 pigs during the peak Tet holiday. All of these pigs are strictly quarantined by authorities according to industrial slaughtering procedures, to ensure food safety and hygiene as well as meat quality before being brought to the market for consumption.
The increase of veterinary forces to carry out slaughter control work at the end of the year and the upcoming Lunar New Year peak is also taking place at the Xuan Thoi Thuong cattle slaughterhouse (Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City).
Mr. Nguyen Huu An - owner of Nam Thai slaughterhouse said that at the end of the year, especially during Tet, the amount of cows and pigs imported to the slaughterhouse is expected to increase compared to normal days. Therefore, the slaughter control work at the slaughterhouse is always strengthened to ensure food safety and hygiene, and at the same time prevent the introduction of unqualified pigs and cows for slaughter at the slaughterhouse.
Mr. Le Chi Bao, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Ho Chi Minh City, said that at the end of the year, especially during the peak of Tet, the number of livestock brought to slaughterhouses will increase. Therefore, the unit has a plan to inspect at the end of the year, especially during the Lunar New Year, to ensure a source of clean meat for the people of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Mr. Bao, the department will establish a team to inspect the operation of slaughterhouses and animal quarantine stations in the city to strictly control and ensure a safe meat supply for people. At the same time, the department will increase the number of disease prevention staff to further support the veterinary staff in carrying out slaughter control work at slaughterhouses.
Ms. Le Thi Mai Khanh, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Aquatic Products of Long An province, also said that there are many manual slaughterhouses in the province, so strengthening the control of slaughter at the end of the year and the peak of Tet is a key task.
According to Ms. Khanh, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries of Long An province has a plan to strengthen slaughter control in the near future, to ensure the supply of meat from manual slaughterhouses when brought to the market is safe.
