Present at the resettlement area for 12 households in Khuon Gio village, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters recorded an extremely bustling atmosphere at the construction site here.
Since early morning, people have started to rebuild their houses. Currently, housing projects and traffic infrastructure have begun to take shape, creating a new look for the resettlement area.
Ms. Duong Thi Luong (38 years old) said that after the recent flood, all of her family's accumulated assets were swept away by the water, causing her family great grief.
"Fortunately, the State allocated residential land and 60 million VND to buy materials and build. On November 7, after the resettlement area was handed over, my family and other households immediately started building new houses. Currently, the progress is about 80%, just waiting for the resettlement area to connect to the domestic water system to be almost complete," Ms. Luong expressed.
Also residing in Khuon Gio village, Ms. Trieu Thi Bac shared that her family is poor and storm No. 3 took away almost all of their belongings.
"The loss is great, but as long as there are people, there is property. Looking at the house gradually being completed, I am very excited and full of hope," Ms. Bac choked up.
According to Chairman of Tan Huong Commune People's Committee Ta Minh Nhat, over 270 households in the commune suffered damage and had their houses affected, of which 28 households were subject to emergency evacuation.
"Currently, a concentrated resettlement area has been arranged for 12 households in Khuon Gio village, each plot of land is 8 m wide, 15 m long, with a total area of 120 m2. For the remaining households, the locality has arranged interspersed land so that people's lives can soon stabilize. It is expected to be completed before Tet 2025," said the Chairman of Tan Huong commune.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Yen Bai Provincial Party Secretary Tran Huy Tuan said that so far, the province has allocated over 300 billion VND to localities and units; urgently evacuated 21,223 households out of dangerous areas.
At the same time, human resources were focused on completing nearly 500 houses and starting construction on nearly 800 houses with a budget of nearly 98 billion VND.
"It is expected that 100% of households whose houses were damaged will have new houses before the Lunar New Year of At Ty," Mr. Tran Huy Tuan shared.
According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Yen Bai province, storm No. 3 left 54 people dead and missing, damaged 25,979 houses, and forced 21,367 households in the province to evacuate to ensure safety.
In Yen Binh district, 235 houses collapsed, were severely damaged, and had their roofs blown off; over 70% of the houses were completely collapsed and severely damaged. The affected communes were concentrated in Tan Huong, Phuc Ninh, Phuc An, Bao Ai and Thac Ba town.
In Khuon Gio hamlet alone, 16 households lost their homes and had to relocate, of which 12 households could not find their own land.
To help people in Tan Huong commune, Yen Binh district quickly stabilize their lives, Yen Bai province has arranged a concentrated resettlement area of about 2,000 square meters, 300 meters from the old landslide site.
