World Water Day March 22, 2025 was launched by the United Nations (UN) with the theme "Glacier Conservation" - "Conservation of ice rivers" to raise global awareness of the important role of ice, snow and ice in the climate system and hydrological cycle of the Earth. World Water Day 2025 also encourages the exchange of knowledge and best practices related to ice conservation and adaptation strategies.
According to the United Nations report, currently ice and ice covers about 70% of the world's freshwater and nearly 2 billion people rely on ice and snow for daily life, agricultural production and energy. The melting of ice and ice has caused sea levels to rise about 20 cm higher than in 1900, causing many water risks for communities, affecting many areas and affecting the global economy.
In Vietnam, water resources depend heavily on international water resources and are facing challenges in water security caused by upstream countries. Therefore, the synthesis of water resources management according to river basins, unifying quantity and quality, between surface water and groundwater, between upstream and downstream are basic and optimal principles that Vietnam and countries around the world are still applying in water resource management.
Based on the theme of world propaganda and the current reality, in 2025, the Vietnamese water resources sector will focus on the content of "Conservation and restoration of rivers" to adapt to the situation of degraded, depleted and polluted water resources. In addition, cooperate with countries in the region to manage water resources in a balanced, unified and synchronous manner, ensuring water security, meeting socio-economic development goals and sustainable development, contributing to solving the global water crisis.
